“We make the invisible visible”: Investigating and evaluating the one-to-one consultation service at a UK higher education institution

One-to-one consultation services comprise key forms of student academic writing support at higher education institutions across the globe. Evaluations these are central to sustaining provision and for supporting effective pedagogy service development (Bell, 2000; Stevenson Kokkinn, 2009). In line with such evaluation goals supplement previous consultations research (e.g. Ma, 2019; Pfrenger et al., 2017; Tiruchittampalam 2017), this paper presents a mixed-methods operating UK university. This study, in contrast range research, investigates perceptions impact delivered by professional EAP practitioners multiple disciplines degree levels. Evaluation data was gathered through focus groups, feedback questionnaires, consultant interviews observations. These sources evidenced positive students consultants pointed on performance. Characteristics were identified, including partnership engagement, need, expertise flexibility, preparation, listening students, being polite respectful, providing something concrete take away.
